5 Simple Recipes for Dogs with Sensitive Stomachs
Caring for a canine with a sensitive stomach can be a challenge. Most commercial dog foods trigger health problems, and store-bought products suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs can be expensive. So, how about feeding your furry friend homemade meals. Here are a few simple and healthy dog food recipes you can try at home.
1. Rice and chicken meal
Chicken and rice have a calming effect on a canine’s digestive system and are beneficial for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Heat 4 ½ cups of water in a skillet and bring to boil. Add 2 cups of white rice, 1 ½ pound of chicken meat, and 1 ½ cups of mixed vegetables to the boiling water, cover the skillet, and simmer for around 20 minutes till the meat and rice are cooked. Remember, cool it before letting your dog dig in.
2. Tuna and sweet potato meal
This recipe comprises three simple ingredients and is light on your pet’s stomach. Tuna is packed with protein, sweet potato is loaded with carbohydrates for energy, and olive oil contains healthy fats that nourish your pet’s skin and hair. Boil half a cup of peeled sweet potato, drain the water, allow it to cool, and then mash it. Then, add 1 cup of unseasoned and oil-free canned tuna and 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mix well to ensure that the meal is not too dry.
3. Chicken breasts with pumpkin and rice
Yellow pumpkin is rich in fiber and helps regularize bowel movements in dogs, making it one of the best ingredients in this homemade dog food suitable for pets with sensitive stomachs. Boil 1 ½ cups of white rice in 4 cups of water in one pot, and cook ½ cup of skinless and boneless chicken breasts in another large pot. Shred the cooked chicken breast finely and add it to the cooked rice. Add ¼ cup of plain yogurt, ¼ cup of canned pumpkin, and about ½ cup of mixed vegetables to the mix, cool a little, and serve.
4. Mashed potatoes and carrots with chicken
Potatoes are rich in carbohydrates, and vitamin-rich carrots aid digestion, reduce stomach irritation, and ease constipation and diarrhea. Cook ½ pound of minced boneless chicken meat and mix it with 1 cup of cooked and mashed potatoes and ½ a cup of boiled and grated carrot. Add 1 ½ tablespoon of cottage cheese, and you have delicious homemade dog food suitable for sensitive stomachs.
5. Slow-cooked vegetable stew with chicken broth and rice
Place 2 cups of sweet potato; 2 pounds of mixed vegetables like peas, carrots, and green beans; 1 cup of brown rice; and two large boneless chicken breasts cut into small pieces in a slow cooker.
